Field Trips

In the interest of increasing the understanding of geology in general and Nelson Region geology in particular we have been leading half day and longer field trips, providing short talks and lectures, and compiling background information.

These have included field trips to the Nelson Boulder Bank; Richmond foothill fossil expeditions; caving trips, Source of the Riwaka River, Harwoods Hole (Able Tasman National Park) visits to major engineering projects being undertaken locally (Nelson Marina expansion, Stoke By-pass, Whangamoa / Spooner Range highway reconstruction) and others.

In addition to the field trips brief school presentations, field work narrations and a Civil Defence seminars have been provided to Nelson Central School, Hira School, Parkfield School (Motueka), Upper Moutere School. Nelson College, and Nelson Tasman Civil Defence.

These are presented free of charge with payment in kind being the opportunity to answer questions asked by the students / parents / attendees.
